Best Google review software for small business

Most comparisons of Google review software rank tools by feature count, which is exactly backwards for a business with one location. The tool that wins is the one whose daily task is short enough that staff still do it in week six. Here are seven options compared on price, contract terms and fit — including where Revuu is the wrong choice.

How we compared these tools

We are the vendor of one of these products, so treat this as an informed comparison rather than a neutral one. What we can do is be accurate and explicit about where we lose.

Everything below uses each vendor's published pricing, checked on the date shown. Where a vendor does not publish pricing, we say so rather than repeating a figure from a third-party blog — quoted prices for custom-pricing platforms vary by location count, contract length and negotiation, and a number we invented would be worse than no number.

The criteria are the ones that decide the outcome for a single location: published price, contract terms, whether the daily task is short, and whether the product does anything beyond reviews that you would actually use. Feature depth is deliberately weighted low, because unused features are a cost.

Revuu — best for a single location on a budget

$19 a month, no contract, and a deliberately narrow product: ask for reviews, watch the listing, draft the replies. The daily task is typing a name and an email, which is the entire design constraint — everything else runs on a schedule.

Where Revuu is the wrong choice: if you have more than three locations, if you want to manage reviews on Facebook, Yelp or Trustpilot as well as Google, or if you need customer messaging, payments, surveys or a CRM, buy something else. We do not have those things and are not building them. A business that needs a customer-experience platform will be frustrated within a month.

The full pricing breakdown covers what each plan includes.

NiceJob — best for referrals and review marketing

At $75/month Reviews; $125/month Pro, NiceJob is a mature product with broad integrations, website widgets, social sharing and a referral system. If you want reviews to feed marketing rather than just sit on your listing, this is the most complete option with published pricing.

The trade-off is scope. A one-location business that only wants Google requests and replies is paying roughly four times our price for capability it will not switch on. See the full NiceJob comparison.

Birdeye — best for multi-location organisations

Birdeye is built for organisations managing many listings, with deep multi-location reporting and a wide reputation and customer experience toolset. For a group of ten or more locations it is a serious platform and the per-location economics work.

Pricing is not published and you go through sales to get it, which for a single shop is usually the end of the conversation. The Birdeye alternative comparison goes through this in detail.

Podium — best if you also want messaging and payments

Podium's real product is local business communication — webchat, SMS, lead conversion, phones and payments — with review management as one component. If you genuinely want to consolidate customer messaging and reviews into one system, that bundle is coherent and the price starts to make sense.

If you only want reviews, you are buying a communications platform to get a review tool. Pricing is custom. See the Podium comparison.

GatherUp — best for agencies and multi-site monitoring

At $99/month for one location; $60/location for 2–10, GatherUp is priced with agencies and multi-location operators in mind, and the per-location rate for 2–10 sites is competitive. It has strong monitoring across multiple review sources and white-label options for agencies reselling review management.

For a single location, $99 a month against $19 is difficult to justify unless you specifically need multi-source monitoring. The GatherUp comparison covers the detail.

Free options and their limits

Google Business Profile is free and does more than most people realise. You can request reviews with the built-in share link, read every review, and reply to all of them from the app. For a business serving a handful of customers a week, that is genuinely sufficient and paying for software would be waste.

What free does not do is remember. There is no scheduled request, no reminder after three days, no alert when a review lands, and no draft waiting when it does. Those four gaps are the entire product category. The honest test is whether you are currently asking every customer without a system — if you are, keep your money.

Free QR and link tools sit alongside this rather than replacing it. Ours are genuinely free and need no signup: review link generator and QR code generator.

How to choose

If you have one location

Start with the cheapest tool that automates the request and the reminder, and insist on month-to-month terms. The failure mode for a single shop is never insufficient features — it is a subscription that quietly stops being used. Buy small, and upgrade only when you hit a wall you can name.

If you have several locations

Between two and three listings, a single-location tool with a multi-listing plan is usually still cheapest. Past about five, you want proper roll-up reporting and per-location permissions, and that means GatherUp, Birdeye or similar. The switch point is reporting, not review volume.

If you are an agency

You need white-labelling, client-level separation and bulk reporting, none of which single-shop tools provide. GatherUp is the obvious starting point. Do not try to run twenty clients through a product designed for one business — including ours.

Questions

What is the best Google review software for a small business?

For a single location that only needs Google reviews, the cheapest tool that reliably sends requests and drafts replies is usually the right answer — the feature lists above that are rarely used. If you need messaging, payments or multi-location reporting, the calculation changes completely and the larger platforms earn their price.

Is there free Google review software?

Google Business Profile itself is free and lets you request reviews and reply manually. That is genuinely enough for a business with low customer volume. Paid software buys automation of the asking and the noticing, which is what fails when a shop gets busy.

How much should review management software cost?

For one location, somewhere between $19 and $99 a month depending on scope. Above that you are usually buying a customer-experience platform with review management included. Custom-pricing vendors typically start well above the published options once a contract is quoted.

Does review software need a contract?

Not necessarily, but many vendors default to annual terms, and the ones with custom pricing almost always quote one. Ask before the demo. Month-to-month is worth a slightly higher price for a business testing whether the routine sticks.

If you only need Google reviews, start at $19

One location, no contract, and a daily task that takes 30 seconds.
